Welcome!
Several years ago, Dr. Sid Mittra, professor emeritus of Finance at Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan, wrote a
Client's Bill of Rights for all those working with a financial advisor. Martha first saw these 10 Amendments in the Financial Planning Magazine in August 1993 and has wished ever since that she had written them.
We at Hobson Yoder Financial Group work really hard to meet the requirements of all 10 Amendments. We ask our clients to tell us if we fall short on any single one. If we do fulfill all the amendments for them, we ask our clients to refer their family and friends to our practice.
A Client's Bill of Rights
Dr. Sid Mittra
Amendment 1: I have the right to deal with someone I can trust.
Amendment 2:
I have the right to deal with someone who has a special area of
expertise or unique capability.
Amendment 3:
I have the right to deal with someone who listens to me and hears my
needs
and concerns.
Amendment 4:
I have the right to deal with someone who not only critically evaluates
a variety of investment and
insurance products, but also offers them to
me with an eye toward appropriateness and suitability.
Amendment 5:
I have the right to expect performance. This means not only
performance from investment
and insurance
products selected, but also
performance in enhancing my overall financial well- being.
Amendment 6:
I have the right to deal with someone who instills in me the feeling that
my money
is being treated as though it is my money.
Amendment 7:
I have the right to deal with someone who prioritizes my short - and
long-term goal and objectives and develops a plan so I can achieve
them in the most efficient manner.
Amendment 8:
I have the right to deal with someone who delivers information to me at
a level which I can understand.
Amendment 9:
I have the right to deal with someone who is oriented toward working
with me over the long haul.
Amendment 10:
I have the right to deal with someone who, by virtue of education,
experience, technical
competence and adherence to ethical practices, is
recognized as a top professional in the field.
We hope the Bill of Rights is helpful and will become your basis for dealing with--or not dealing with--any financial advisors.
